Jusqu a pr�sent, parmi ces artistes, ou nommait Francesco Laurana, qui revint en Provence a plu sieurs reprises et y mourut; Giuliano da San Gallo, qui parcourut le midi de la France; l'illustre Fra Giocondo et enfin Guido Mazzoni, le sculpteur officiel de Charles VIII et de Louis XII, qui passa pr�s de vingt ans dans notre pays�. A cette liste, nous avons pro pos� d'ajouter Pietro da Milano, sculpteur et archi tecte favori du roi de Naples, qui n'est autre. Selon nous, que le m�dailleur si connu de la famille d'an jou 2.
Mais Naples ne donnait ainsi � la France que des enfants d'ad0ption. Avec Jean de Candida, elle donne plus encore car il s'agit d'un de ses propres enfants; a moins quon ne pr�tende, en admettant l'origine normande de la famille Filangieri3, que la m�re patrie, en recevant cet artiste, ne faisait que rouvrir ses portes � un enfant prodigue. A celui - l�, on devra accorder une bonne place dans l'histoire de notre art francais, car il eut une in?uence rest�e latente jus qu'� nos jours, mais certainement tr�s effective.
