Petersen sprach ihm seinen Beifall aus, doch f�hle er, selbst Dilettant auf diesem Gebiete, sich nicht competent zur Beurteilung der Arbeit, sondern habe Dr. Elurd Hugo Meyer von Bremen um eine solche gebeten. Meyer, dessen Bekanntschaft Mielck noch in Hamburg gemacht hatte, gab diesem mit freundlicher Bereitwilligkeit das Resultat seiner Pr�fung. W�hrend er dem feinen Sinn f�r Sprach liches, der sich in den Beobachtungen offenbare, seine Anerkennung zollt, vermisst er eine gr�ndliche historische Kenntniss der deutschen Sprache; aus diesem Mangel seien die Schwachen und Fehler zu erkl�ren, deren er eine Anzahl eingehend bespricht. Er teilt seinen Rat mit, wie solche f�r fernere Arbeiten unentbehrlichen Kenntnisse zu gewinnen seien. Die weiteren Schritte in das gemeinsame Feld werde er mit Freuden begr�ssen. Mielck antwortet mit Dank und nimmt mit Bescheidenheit die gemachten Ausstellungen an. Hinsichtlich zweier Punkte bleibe er aber bei seiner Ansicht. Die ihm empfohlene Frommann'sche Rechtschreibung f�r Mundarten (in desselben Zeit schrift "die Deutschen Mundarten Bd. VI am Schluss) sei wohl not wendig, wo es gelte, eine Anzahl Dialekte nach Einer Regel zu behandeln; "sollte es aber eines so zusammengesetzten Werkzeuges bed�rfen, wenn nur Eine Mundart durch die Schrift wiederzugeben ist? Der andere Punkt war ein ge�usserter Zweifel an der Richtigkeit zweier Behauptungen, den Mielck als einen Zweifel an der Richtigkeit seiner Beobachtung der Laute und Formen verstanden hatte. Er schliesst: "die Stufe eines Meisters oder auch nur Gesellen in der Deutschen Sprachforschung werde ich wohl schwerlich erklimmen, aber auch als Handlanger konnte ich (wenn ich die Begabung f�r die Sprache, die Sie mir zuerkennen, besitze, ) Andern beim Bau einer plattdeutschen Sprachlehre helfen. Auf den Vorschlag Peterscns, die Arbeit zu seinem Angedenken dem gymnasial-archive zu �bergeben, wo sie neben Arbeiten seiner fr�heren Collogen eine wurdige Stelle einnehmen wurde, ist Mielck nicht eingegangen, sei es aus Bescheiden heit, sei es weil er hoffte, sie einmal umarbeiten und vollenden zu konnen.
