Publisher's Synopsis
Revision with unchanged content. Control and Health management of Human-engineered complex dynamical sys-tems are often addressed as separate issues. In this book a comprehensive control and health management strategy is formulated for achieving high performance and reliability over a wide range of oper-ation. Results from diverse research areas such as Probabilistic Robust Con-trol (PRC), Damage Mitigating/Life Extending Control (DMC), Discrete Event Supervisory (DES) Control, Symbolic Time Series Analysis (STSA) and Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) have been employed to achieve this goal. Continuous-domain control modules at the lower level are synthesized by PRC and DMC theories, whereas the upper-level supervision is based on DES control theory. The proposed decision and control architecture has been validated on two test-beds, simulating the operations of rotorcraft dynamics and aircraft propulsion. The book is addressed to professionals in engin-eering field, particularly, Aerospace, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.
