The novel is set in the mid 70's Lord John Penkarrow's philosophically sedate but interesting life is turned upside down when he learns of the murder of his uncle, former wartime cabinet minister the Marquis of Liskeard. The amateur detective is spurred into action through a sense of family honour and the desire to deal with any scandal before it reaches the Press. Assisted by his fiancée daughter of his West Indian house keeper. He's thrown into a world of family scandal and intrigue which threatens to tear his family apart. Penakarrow finds himself in a world of dodgy antique dealers and smuggling network controlled by a gang leader masquerading as a respected local businessman. The novel is set in Cornwall, London and Amsterdam.
