Por quinto an~o consecutivo, es placentero presentarles el sumario del Quinto Simposio de Cultura Maya Ichkaantijoo, ya que difundir los trabajos en torno a la cultura maya, ha sido uno de los principales objetivos de este congreso y del Instituto Nacional de Antropologi´a e Historia, y en esta ocasio´n se viste de aniversario de un "jo ´tun", es decir, un ciclo de cinco an~os consecutivos de la organizacio´n de este convite. Y con el cual, a la vez que se cierra un ciclo, va´lgase la redundancia, comienza uno nuevo con la convocatoria del simposio 2019. El orden de los trabajos presentados en el compendio, se hizo tomando en cuenta su disposicio´n que tuvieron en el programa del simposio de 2018. Es decir, con criterio similar al tomo nu´mero 4.
El Quinto Simposio de Cultura Maya Ichkaantijoo se llevo´ a cabo en la segunda semana de diciembre de 2018, del 3 al 7 del mes y del an~o respectivo, Las instalaciones de la Biblioteca del Centro INAH-Yucata´n volvieron a servir como auditorio siguiendo la costumbre, Otros espacios esta´n siendo utilizados, la sala de juntas en el segundo nivel ha servido para llevar a cabo el taller de epigrafi´a, asi´ como la Seccio´n de Arqueologi´a de este mismo centro. Para tal evento se presentaron un total de 44 ponencias (en un principio se contemplaron 47 ponencias, pero se cancelaron tres finalmente), y con una participacio´n de ma´s de 60 autores (ver ape´ndice). Se realizaron dos talleres, uno de materiales arqueolo´gicos, a cargo de las especialistas Dalia Paz Rivera y Nancy Peniche May (Concha y piedra, aproximaciones metodolo´gicas de estudio); y otro de Epigrafi´a maya, a cargo del especialista Guillermo Kantu´n Rivera (Escritura jerogli´fica maya del cla´sico temprano). Tambie´n se exhibieron dos obras arti´sticas, una exposicio´n fotogra´fica "Los usos y formas del hipil maya yucateco", a cargo de la antropo´loga Lourdes Rejo´n Patro´n y una exposicio´n de pintura regional "Geometri´as Pu ´uk", del artista visual Rafael Penroz Viscencio. Se llevo´ a cabo como novedad de este an~o, la exposicio´n de las principales piezas recuperadas por el Centro INAH-Yucata´n, cuyo responsable fue el titular del Departamento de tra´mites legales de este instituto, Arturo Chab Ca´rdenas, con el apoyo del delegado del Instituto Eduardo Lo´pez Calzada.
Del total de las 44 investigaciones presentadas durante el programa de 2018, diecinueve se recibieron para completar este quinto volumen, la mayor cantidad que se han recibido respecto a los compendios anteriores, lo cual es otra satisfaccio´n del simposio, ya que denota un mayor intere´s por publicar sus investigaciones con nosotros y en nuestro congreso local.
Las memorias del simposio referente al an~o 2018, de quinto aniversario para la organizacio´n, pretende cumplir con la continuidad ininterrumpida de dar a conocer las investigaciones ma´s recientes sobre los mayas en general, esperando nuevamente motivar au´n ma´s a los investigadores y estudiantes de esta cultura. Con esta quinta publicacio´n, como siempre se ha dicho en los nu´meros anteriores, reiteramos nuestra invitacio´n a los investigadores que ya han participado en an~os anteriores, y otra vez extender el llamado a los jo´venes investigadores, para que se animen a dar a conocer sus ideas y estudios sobre el desarrollo y evolucio´n de la cultura maya. Y no nos queda ma´s que repetir y volver a repetir, que, con la difusio´n, se pretende reforzar la conciencia de nuestra sociedad en cuanto a la importancia de conservar, conocer y cuidar el patrimonio cultural de nuestro pai´s.
