Bookseller Notes

A scarce book - that status probably helped by the onset of War, with which its contents would also have acquired a new pertinence. The ownership inscription is that of Edme Southey, her note recording purchase beneath is in French - the book having been bought with money from her Aunt Olga. The book's original owner would seem, per descriptions regarding the sale of her furniture at Christie's, to have been a descendant of the poet Robert Southey.
