Publisher's Synopsis

An interesting little volume prepared by R. A. Peddie, a well-known member of the English library association, is "Fifteenth century books: a guide to their identification." The author says in his preface that books printed before 1501 are in a class apart, in which there is an increased interest, and that this interest has grown until it behooves everyone to identify the fifteenth century books in his collections. To assist in this is the purpose of the little book. All important works dealing with the subject from any point of view have been cataloged and described, and information furnished on the author, printers, place of the publication of the book, and also authorities dealing with types, illustrations, water marks and all the other details which go to make up the study of the fifteenth century books are cited. In the appendices, a list of Latin names of places, catalogs of collections of incunabula, and histories of printing in special towns are included. The interesting task of identifying old books will find many sources of help in this little guide.
