However, area is not enough, because the aroma of essential oils can stimulate the limbic system, which is part of the brain and plays a role in emotion, behavior, smell and long-term memory. This system is closely related to the formation of memory. This may partly explain why familiar smells trigger memories or emotions.
The limbic system also plays a role in controlling several unconscious physiological functions, such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure.
