On her new case our protagonist is hired to find a stolen handbag made from an exclusive and extinct kind of reptile leather and to solve the murder of a young shop girl. This leads her into the darkest streets of Star City to discover something more sinister than she's ever dealt with before. She encounters a wildly powerful and ancient evil family that lurks the alleys and nightclubs and who have a plan to take over the city and the most powerful people in it.Vic finds unlikely allies in a drag queen, a local plainclothes police officer and a young girl in a red cloak. They race to solve the mystery of the pretty purse and the dead girl only to discover there is more than meets the eye when it comes to the citizens of Star City that no one ever expected.
