Ma troppo ingegnose sono queste opinioni, oridecb� alla sentenza aderendo di autori pi� accreditati noi pure ripetia mo l'origine di questo vocabolo dai componimenti dei primi poeti della Provenza detti giullari oss1a buffoni diciamo pe raltro che la denominazione di romanzi non altronde provenne loro che dalla lingua in che furono scritti, ossia dall' idioma che nacque dal miscuglio della lingua latina con gl' idiomi Settentrionali, principalmente del gallico antico e del proven zale, e che fu chiamato romano per distinguerlo dal latino, il quale dopo l' inondazione dei barbari si conserv� soltanto nei libri, sebbene. Deturpato da' molte ineleganze e scorrezioni. L' invasione dunque dei barbari corruppe la lingu'a latina, che stante l'introduzione di molte voci e desinenze straniere trovossi vestita di nuovi colori, e la lingua che suon� grani diloqua nella bocca dei Virgi e dei Ciceroni, e che fu la lingua del popolo dominatore dell'universo, divenne timida e fredda.
