Beginnen wir unsere Reise auf einem Hügel über Rom, weit weg von den Wirren des Krieges der Engel und Dämonen, der schon länger tobt als unsere Protagonisten überhaupt leben. Unser Protagonist Mortem, der junge Prinz von Inferis, der sich schon immer lieber mit Menschen beschäftigte als mit Krieg und dergleichen, wird jetzt vom Schicksal gezwungen in den Krieg einzugreifen. Mortem, der über sein Leben nachdenkt, wird von seinem besten Freund Corvus aus seinen Gedanken gerissen und muss erfahren, dass seine Mutter, die Fürstin der Hölle oder wie andere sie nennen, das oberste Übel ihn sofort sprechen will. Mortem und seine Mutter hatten schon jeher keine allzu enge Bindung zueinander, was man von der Fürstin der Hölle auch kaum erwarten kann, als kalte und bornierte Frau. Corvus und Mortem machen sich jetzt auf, sich in Inferis mit ihr zu treffen. Sie schickt die Beiden auf eine Reise durch verschiedenste Welten an die Front, wo sie eine geheimnisvolle Mission erledigen sollen. Auf dieser Reise begleitet sie noch Mortems Bruder Bellum, der Liebling des obersten Übels und Mortems schlimmster Albtraum, ein Dämon, die mit Sicherheit mehr Muskeln als Hirn besitzt und voller Hinterlist ist. Auf der Reise stehen sie großen Gefahren gegenüber, entdecken gemeinsam faszinierende Landschaften und Kreaturen und decken verborgene Geheimnisse auf, die ihre Welt für immer verändern. Doch auch gutes kommt mit ihrer Reise. Sie lernen neue Freunde kennen, besiegen gemeinsam viele Feinde und auch engere Bindungen beginnen zu entstehen. Doch im Hintergrund, noch vor aller Augen verborgen, bereitet sich ein neuer Feind vor, die Welten anzugreifen und trachtet danach alles Leben, wie wir es kennen, zu vernichten. Das Schicksal erwählte Mortem und Corvus, sich diesem Schatten entgegenzustellen. Bleibt nur die Frage offen, schafft es Mortem, mit der Hilfe seiner Freunde und Begleiter die Welt zu retten?
