Publisher's Synopsis
The many changes in chemistry teaching, assessment and examinations have emphasized the need for students to develop an ability to tackle problems, projects and questions on their own, without rehearsal and without the help of the teacher. This book offers materials for the development of this skill. It contains about 40 items taken from scientific literature, such as books, journals and industrial pamphlets, and these are followed by questions aimed at helping to relate the study of chemistry to students' everyday life. Questions related to unfamiliar material are often perceived as more difficult than the same ideas presented in a neutral or familiar context, and to compensate for this the questions have been pitched at a somewhat lower level than might be used in a conventional structured or free-response A-Level paper.
