What does the term "estrogen" mean?
Hormones are like a seesaw in your body. Your body functions optimally when all of its components are in sync. However, if they're out of whack, you're more likely to have issues.
As the "female" hormone, estrogen is widely regarded as such. The "male" hormone is testosterone. Despite the fact that each hormone is associated with a specific sex, it can be found in both men and women. The estrogen levels in women tend to be higher, while those in men tend to be higher.
In women, estrogen acts as a stimulant for the onset of sex. In addition to controlling a woman's menstrual cycle and the rest of her reproductive system, progesterone is found in all female intercourse hormones. At different points in a premenopausal woman's cycle, estrogen and progesterone levels vary.
In men, estrogen also plays an important role in sex.
Excessive estrogen: the root causes
Estrogen levels can rise naturally, but taking positive medications can also result in excessive amounts of the hormone. For example, estrogen replacement therapy, a well-known treatment for menopausal symptoms and signs, may also cause estrogen to reach problematic levels.
Low levels of testosterone or progesterone in your body can also strengthen your physical appearance, which can upset your hormonal equilibrium. Ego dominance occurs when your estrogen levels are abnormally high in comparison to your progesterone levels.
In women, excessive estrogen can cause a variety of symptoms.
