Publisher's Synopsis

In 1946 Norma Jean Baker sat for her first photographic session ever, taken by Sunset Boulevard photographer Bruno Bernard. For the next 17 years Bernard became her confidante and father-confessor as the naive and shy child-woman became the vivacious Marilyn Monroe. This is a collection of his photographs of Monroe, many of them previously unpublished, from her earliest days to the zenith of her screen career. They are accompanied by text by Bernard's daughter.;Bernard, who escaped to America from Nazi Germany, died in 1987. He achieved fame for his portraits of Hollywood stars, and in 1984 was honoured by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with a 50-year retrospective of his work.
