About the author Born on November 11, 1928, in Liverpool, England, I came to the USA with Dear Old Dad on the Cunard Liner S.S. Laconia. A Dr. and his wife on the ship wanted to adopt me. Dear Old Dad asked, "Are you Catholic"? They replied, "No." Then Dad said, "No!" That was from the training of the Jesuits in Sacred Heart Parish Liverpool. Recently I had a breath of fresh air when our oldest daughter, who had been through the more difficult times of our lives, sent me this note: "Thank you for being my mom For caring all these years and doing your best.
