Publisher's Synopsis
Drama in which the affair between an aspiring young novelist and an established writer threatens the stability of a family. Emelia Conan Doyle (Jessica Brown Findlay) is a wannabe novelist, struggling to live up to the literary heritage of a family dominated by the achievements of Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the 'Sherlock Holmes' stories. She takes a job at a remote hotel on the outskirts of a seaside town and begins an affair with its owner, Jonathan Fischer (Sebastian Koch), an established writer who she believes can help her with her work. However, Emelia also develops a friendship with Jonathan's teenage daughter, Beth (Felicity Jones), and maintains relations with his wife, Joanna (Julie Ormond). As the secret affair progresses, weaving an increasingly tangled web, will the two authors come to regret their dalliance?
