"June 6th, 1864, Northern Virginia: Missouri was a state with divided loyalties, and while some of Sergeant Lucas Cain's friends from Missouri had chosen to fight for the South, Lucas chose to fight for the Union, because he didn't want to see America divided into two countries. Lucas was with the Fifth Missouri, and they were in the seventh day of the Battle at Cold Harbor. Lucas ducked when a cannon shell launched by a Confederate Napoleon gun some three-thousand yards distant, came rushing in with a sound not unlike that of a disconnected freight-car rolling rapidly down the track.
