An arrangement strictly 'by subject, rather than by catch - word, might be preferable, but with the material to be compiled it has been necessary to follow the Old arrangement. For convenience in use allied subjects have been brought together under one heading whenever it seemed practicable; for example, the material which in the annual volumes appeared under the headings Aeronautics, Aviation, Airships and Flying machines has here been combined under the one subject Aeronautics.
