The colon, also known as the intestine, is the section of the digestive tract that is responsible for absorbing liquids and nutrients from the food that we ingest. The last stage of digestion is called elimination, and it involves the passage of digested food residue through the colon before it is expelled from the body. The presence of a bowel obstruction, which is a blockage that limits the passage of intestinal contents, has the potential to halt or interrupt the process that is now taking place. It's possible that the obstacle was caused by something mechanical, which means there was a physical barrier in the way. Scar tissue, adhesions, entrapment through a hernia, foreign substances, gallstones, tumors, impacted feces, and volvulus are all potential causes of mechanical obstructions in the digestive tract (twisting of the intestines). The removal of the obstructing object, if it is physically possible, is the standard method of treatment for mechanical obstruction.
