Drainage is one of the emerging and challenging issues in urban environmental management. It's necessity is self evident truth. Rajshahi is the 4th largest Metropolitan City in Bangladesh but it's drainage system is not well organized specially in fringe areas. Most of the areas of the city have no planned drainage network and most of the households disposed their wastes indiscriminately into the existing drains. Consequently an unhygienic environment, blockage of drains and channels are the common phenomenon in the City. As a result, every year people are severely affected by various diseases. The drainage system is inevitably contributed to improve environment, health and well-being of the citizens of Rajshahi. The present study has tried to find out the gap of existing drainage network system and their maintenance system of Rajshahi City Corporation. The need for good drainage system has been voiced by the residents of of Rajshahi City Corporation. Better design of drainage network and proper management of drainage system, some necessary actions and some guidelines are suggested in this study for smooth functioning of Rajshahi City Corporation drainage system.
