Publisher's Synopsis

This new book features members of new generation of European photographers and architects who produce images of architecture made from fragments of reality. As opposed to previous generations, the pairs of designers and artists in this book no longer respond to distinct divisions of labour according to traditional disciplinary boundaries. Rather, they influence and usurp each other's role in order to produce distilled images of possible worlds.

Based on a series of interviews, Seamless: Digital Collage and Dirty Realism in Contemporary Architecture narrates in three chapters the collaborations between Filip Dujardin and Jan De Vylder (both Belgian), Philipp Schaerer and Roger Boltshauser (both Swiss), and Bas Princen (Dutch) and Kersten Geers (Belgian). Each chapter is illustrated with pairs of images of a building by the respective architect (e.g. Roger Boltshauser) and another structure, both taken by the respective photographer (e.g Philipp Schaerer ) reverberating each other and continuing the dialogue in the text. A concluding essay brings together and elaborates on the threads and ideas emerging from these conversations, providing also theoretical framework.
