Well, there is an incredible and absolutely true story behind how this recipe came to be. You see, my mother-in-law makes the best Russian tea mix EVER. She makes it and gives it as gifts. So, naturally I asked her for the recipe. Well, let's just say that she didn't want to give it to me because what she actually gave me was definitely NOT it. We tried to play around with it, but whatever "recipe" she gave me was so far from the real recipe, we just gave up and would just hound her to send us more when we ran out. Well, lo and behold, just a few years ago, we were visiting her just before Christmas, and she was making a batch. I didn't even bother asking her for the recipe again. Well, I was in the kitchen, and as I turned around towards the table, I just absently glanced down and saw THE RECIPE!!! I ran to the hubs in the living room and told him THE RECIPE was lying on the table. He told me to copy it quick before she came back in there! Of course, I tried to do just that. When I heard her approaching, I had to stop writing it down, but I copied most of it! The reason her recipe is hard to duplicate without the exact measurements is because of some measurements like 2 tablespoons + 3/4 teaspoons and other weird combinations. Well, of course, at the first opportunity I set out to make THE RECIPE. Since I didn't have the complete recipe, we were going to have to do some testing, which ended up being a lot of testing! My mother-in-law makes huge batches of the stuff, so we had to cut the recipe to a batch size for our family. Remember the crazy measurement combinations? Well, couple that with the fact I didn't get a chance to write down two of the ingredient measurements, just the name, so we had a lot of testing that occurred. FINALLY, we got a version that tastes almost exactly like hers!
FEATURES AND USES OF THIS BLANK RECIPE JOURNAL
You can omit the sugar if you so desire. It will still be plenty sweet, but here in the South, we like our tea (hot or cold) SWEET, so...
Orange flavored Tang is traditionally what is used, but you can change up the taste a little by using a different flavor and still get good results. We used Passion Fruit flavor by accident one time, and it was still quite delicious.
