Publisher's Synopsis
Recently divorced, thirty-seven year-old Vanessa lays in bed in her aunt's apartment in New York City, feeling as if a weight is pinning her there. She has no children, no money, and no real friends. Her entire life was the wealthy, charismatic, passionate Richard. When she learns that he is engaged to Nellie, the woman with whom he had an affair, Vanessa is shattered. On the surface, Nellie appears to be like many other young women, but she isn't as carefree as she appears. A tightly-held secret forced her to flee Florida. It's why a baseball bat is propped next to her bed, and three locks secure her door. When she met Richard, he promised to keep her safe. But then mysterious phone calls begin. A picture of her that rests on Richard's nightstand is turned around, and her late father's handkerchief-the one she was planning to tie around her bouquet-goes missing. When she learns that Richard's ex doesn't want to let him go, she becomes convinced that someone is watching her and wants to harm her. But who?
