As a child Annie has a fascination with Indians. She gets the impression that all Indians are brave, honorable, honest and have integrity. She has to learn that these qualities don't come easy and it isn't because of their race that men have good character. Men develop respect by making good choices at each fork in the road. Annie's life is filled with trials but she never loses her faith in God and believes that his plan is for her good.
