The plains have abundant sunshine, low humidity, light rain fall, hot summers, cold winters, high winds, and great yearly fluctuations in precipitation and temperature. The elevation varies from 3500 feet to 5500 feet. The vegetation, which is predominately a short grass type, is used principally for cattle grazing. The area is Sparsely settled and a few small towns are the main trade centers.
