Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from The Past, Present, and Future: In Prose and Poetry
This is truly an age of progress and im provement. Without method, the following thoughts on the Past, Present, and Future, and the Poems contained in this little Work, were thrown together at such leisure moments when life's cares and duties allowed the Author to commune with himself. The only apology he has to ofier for the appearance of this Work is, that it may possibly assist in swelling the tone of righteous indignation against a system of oppression, cruelty, and wrong, which has degraded a large portion of the human family, with which the writer is identified. If, by its publication, this is in any wise accomplished, the Author will patiently bear whatever criticism he may be exposed to, under the impression that the friends of humanity will not too severely deal with that which, though im perfect, is at least well intended.
