The translators have not found it easy to produce a satis factory rendering of Ursprung der Chrz'stlz'chen Kirchenkunst. The style of the original does not lend itself readily to an English version, and it has been almost impossible to find concise equiva lents for some of the terms employed. A few short passages of purely ephemeral reference have been omitted; otherwise the book remains substantially as it was written. The proofs have passed through the author's hands.
