Publisher's Synopsis
This volume follows on from volume I which looked at the upstanding remains and topography of the castle to focus on the excavations which took place from 1978-1998. The castle was founded in the 11th century and remaineduse until the civil war, with major alterations in the 14th and subsequent centuries. The excavations looked at four principal sites within the castle: the motte and keep; the inner bailey; and two settlement sites. There is a full report on the finds including environmental evidence.
