And if the Study of, Hydro fiaricks is fo ufeful in the Materia Medica, and to all Dealers in Medicine, (0 it is no lefs ufeful to thofe whofe Office obliges them to the Practice Of the Medi ca interna itfelf; becaufe, ' according to the excellent Boerhaaqze (in hiswell ete Method Of fludying Phyfick) a Phyfician ought to be well acquainted with all the Laws Of Motion, with Staticks, Hydrollaticks, and Hydrau licks, and the Properties Of all Fluids, of which more by and by. To proceed to Vegetation, the Rifing and Afcent 'of the Sap and Other Liquors in Trees and Capillary Tubes, is not to be accounted for any Other Way, than by Hydrof'taticks and to fo great a Pitch did fome Of the Ancients carry this Notion, that they fuppos'd (as Backler has it) that they fliould mile of the Joys of Heaven, as thro' a Syphon, of which more hereafter.
