Diese Erw�gungen lieferten mir den Anla� f�r die vorliegende Untersuchung. Erste Schritte habe ich in dieser Richtung bei der Untersuchung des Gehirns von Ammocoetes getan, aber viele Seiten der Frage blieben f�r mich noch so dunkel, da� ich mich damals nicht entschlie�en konnte, Ergebnisse von Beobachtungen �ber das Pineal Organ von Ammocoetes zu ver�ffentlichen. Ich hatte n�mlich die Ab sicht, nach dem Schlu� der Gehirnforschung die Parietalorgane bei Petromyzon in Betracht zu ziehen, was ich in den Jahren 1911 und 1912 ausf�hren konnte.
