Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Catalogue of the Printed Books and Manuscripts Forming the Library of Frederic David Mocatta, Esq., 9, Connaught Place, London, W
The system of the present Catalogue is an adaptation of that of the British Museum to the special requirements of this Library. When the Author's name occurs on the title-page, or is given in the work itself, that name is taken as the heading. If the name does not occur either on the title-page or in the work, the book is treated as anonymous, even though the Author's identity may be otherwise ascertainable. Anonymous works are generally entered under the first substantive, unless mention is made of a person or place, when that name is adopted as the heading. In cases where the Author of an anonymous work is known, the name is added within square brackets, and a cross-reference made from it. In the case of pseudonymous works the entry is made under the pseudonym, with the Author's name, when known, within square brackets.
