This Introduction was first printed as a separate pamphlet by the Cam bridge (england) University Press, and was dated January 30, 1901. This second edition is a reprint of the first, and the principal change introduced consists in the mode of reference to the Chapters on various subjects which, instead of being distributed among the items of the List of my publications (an arrangement that I had announced in the Prospectus of my Record published in June, appear now collected in Part II.
