Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Parsifal a Festival-Drama
Act II. Klingsor's castle Klingsor with sorcerer's arts, calls Kundry from her magic sleep, and bids her seduce Parsifal. While she pleads with him, Parsifal is heard mounting the ramparts and driving Klingsor's knights in head long flight. The castle sinks with the sorcerer, and the scene changes to a luxuriant garden, where Parsifal enters, and is surrounded by flower girls, seeking to entice him. Finally Kundry, bound to Klingsor's service, appears in the guise of a beautiful woman, disperses the flower girls, and with devilish ingenuity attempts Parsifal's seduction. But at her first kiss, the knowledge of Amfortas' temptation and agony comes to him in a flood of compassion, and he casts her off. Enraged, she calls to her aid Klingsor, who hurls at Parsifal the Sacred Spear. It remains poised above the youth's head; he seizes it, 'and makes the sign of the cross, whereat the castle falls in ruins.
