Publisher's Synopsis

Excerpt from "Evolution of Sound" Evolved: A Review of the Article Entitled "the Nature of Sound" In "the Problem of Human Life"

In the summer of 1881, being then quite a young man, I saw in a newspaper a review of The Problem of Human Life. It was quite eulogistic, and declared that the wave theory of sound had been completely overthrown. If this were true, I thought it an inter esting fact, and immediately secured a copy of the book. I had learned from the review something of the drift of its teaching on the nature of sound, and was predisposed to accept its revolutionary views.
