Excerpt from Works of the Late Doctor Benjamin Consisting of His Life, Written by Himself: Together With Essays, Humorous, Moral Literary, Chiefly in the Manner of the Spectator
The Ell'ays, which are now, for the firfi time, brought, together from various refources, will be found to be more mifcellaneous than any of Dr. Franklin's that have formerly been colleeled, and will therefore be more ge nerally amufing. Dr. Franklin tells us, in his Life, that he was an afliduous imitator of Addifon, and from me of thete papers it will be admitted that he was not an unhappy one. The public will be amufed with fol lowing a great philofopher in his relaxations, and ob ferving in what refpeels philofophy tends to elucidate and improve the molt common fubjeets. The editor has purpofely avoided fuch papers as, by their (cienti fical nature, were lefs adapted for general perufal. Thefe he may probably hereafter publilh in a volume by themfelves.
