On June ist, 1888, the Lick Observatory was transferred by the Lick Trustees to the Regents of the University of California, and the scientific history of the establishment begins with that date. In a future volume of these Publications it is intended to print a description of the objectives and mounting of the great equatorial, and the investigations which have been made of the various constants of the lenses.
