Edvard Grieg, who was born at Bergen, Norway, in 1843, composed his piano concerto in 1868, at the age of twenty-five, while spending the summer vaca tion in the Danish village of Sollerod, Zealand, one year after his marriage with Nina Hagerup, his cousin.
