Publisher's Synopsis
Excerpt from Manual Training Magazine, 1906, Vol. 7
Explosive centers confuse the eye and leave it uncertain which way to turn.
Over-emphatic rhythms are also to be avoided. Ordinarily, rhythm hastens movement and distracts the attention, while contrary motion ar rests the gaze. Rhythm also assists structure while contrary motion Opposes it, but a rhythm Of many curves tends to exaggerate movement and produce an unpleasant whirling motion in the pattern.
