Publisher's Synopsis

He did not follow the general custom of attaching notes, because he conceived the history too generally known to need it. N 0 character except that of Estrilda is entirely ideal; and the examination of Alban is given, as far as poetry, and a slight amplification would admit, in the words of the Venerable Bede.
