Excerpt from Vergleichende Anatomische Untersuchungen Über Zoobotryon Pellucidus (Ehrenberg)
Ehrenberg erkannte nicht allein die thierische Natur des von ihm genannten Zoobotryon pellucidus, er hat auch zuerst die systematische Verwandschaft mit den Bryozoen festgestellt. Er fand es auf seiner ägyptischen Reise in der Nähe von Suez im rothen Meere, später auch im Mittelmeer bei Alexandrien, wo es zu wiederholten Malen aus dem neuen Hafen durch die Netze der Fischer hervorgezogen wurde. (sym bolae phys. Animalia evertebrata Tab. Ill.) Die Fig. 10 der Tab. Ill giebt ein so getreues Bild des Thierstocks in natürlicher Gröfse, dafs über die Identität mit der vor? Mir in Triest und später in Neapel beobachteten Bryozoe nicht die geringsten Zweifel obwalten dürfen.
