Lily Foley, high school senior is forced to move from Tucson, Arizona to Quincy, Illinois after the death of her parents. She lives with her mysterious Aunt Elizabeth in an ancient Italianate home believing that after graduation she will return to marry Wade Scott the man she has always loved. After promised letters are never received both go on with their lives thinking they've been forgotten. The Hohokam bracelet Wade gave Lily until he can afford an engagement ring strangely disappears. Lily marries a prosperous farmer and Wade becomes obsessed with wealth. After twenty-four years, they meet again when Lily returns to Tucson to face another crisis. What happens after Wade confronts her about their commitment and later discovers she is not only a widow but his silent partner? What does Lily do when she finds Wade has returned to destroy the beloved Hohokam historic site in Southwest Arizona? Will Wade move away when he hears Lily returned to Quincy to marry Bo Harrison, her boss or will he trust God and find that the past and the present can find room for compromise?
