Publisher's Synopsis
Description in English: Barren is the tragedy in which Federico Garcia Lorca developed more widely and with greater highlight a central theme in his work: the sterility and fertility. On the protagonist he projected undoubtedly an intimate personal problem. But the scope of the work exceeded the significance in two directions: the universal myth, based on the belief that fertility is a way of salvation, and specifically on the Spanish. Barren was part of a dramatic trilogy of the Spanish land and in he criticized the sexual morality of that country. The subtitle of tragic poem clearly reveals the aesthetic intention that, following the footsteps of Lope de Vega, Lorca takes to build a world studded with symbols and lyricism. Miguel Garcia-Posada, critic, literary and specialist in Lorca's work, offers here and enriched edition with the study of the versions known until today, including the original autograph, and builds, in the Introduction, an integrated personal reading of the best criticism.
