Publisher's Synopsis
This exciting, inspirational and exhilarating book contains the winning entries in the 2002 Write Here, Write Now competition, run for the third year by the Department for Education and Skills.
All the children were given a choice of four pieces of writing, each started by a famous writer, which they had to complete.
The writers, representing the most creative people working today, were:
JOHN HEGLEY (poem) - one of the UK's favourite comic poets. He is the author of six best-selling poetry books, including "Beyond Our Kennel" and "Dog". He says:
"Take your chance
to make your writing dance
sing
astonish and sing.
AND you might win something."
TERRY JONES (persuasive writing) - a well-known children's author, as well as an actor, director, comedian and former member of the Monty Python team. His recommendation:
"Writing something is much more fun than not writing something - and it lasts longer!"
LIZO MZIMBA (journalism) - the current presenter of "Newsround", the children's news programme on BBC1. He has also written for various magazines and newspapers, and has reported for the BBC's One O'Clock and Six O'Clock News. His advice?
"Writing is a wonderful way to share your experiences, opinions and insight with people and, of course, it's fun too!"
JACQUELINE WILSON (story) - the popular, prize-winning author of "The Illustrated Mum", "Vicky Angel" and "Lizzie Zipmouth".
"I'm looking forward to reading the entries and seeing the inventive and imaginative ways children complete my story."
The results were varied and highly imaginative. They were often funny, sometimes sad... and everything in between!
