Publisher's Synopsis

A Long-Lost Collection of Woodturning Projects from Yesteryear

A collection of exercises (originally published in 1916 as a collection of loose sheets) intended for woodshop students learning the craft of woodturning and the use of tools to produce a finished product. The production of objects by means of machinery as well as by hand should be required of every high school boy. Woodturning affords a method of employing this important phase of educational work and at the same time gives the student the opportunity for acquiring skill in the use of tools and machinery.

The 25 projects are presented in a graded order so that each project will require the use of additional techniques and add to the accumulation of the basic skills required of the woodturner. The projects consist of detailed measured drawings which include chisel handles, a potato masher, legs for a stool, chair legs or chair rungs, a mallet, a gavel, a ball and ring, rosettes, a match box, candlesticks, and more.

In addition to the measured drawings, there are short discussions concerning woods for turning, glue as it is used in woodturning, care of tools and machinery, finishing, and woodturning tools and their uses.
