Bookseller Notes

Around 1910, Edmund Hort New completed a number of engravings of Oxford, including views of the Broad, and within it of Blackwell's bookshop - then a mere thirty years standing; some 110 years later, celebrating our 140th anniversary, Blackwell's is delighted to present a new wood-engraving of its frontage by one of the best contemporary wood-engravers.Peter Lawrence has been engraving for close to thirty years; his work is in the collections of the Ashmolean Museum, the Manchester Metropolitan Museum, and the V&A. In 2016, Pete designed the cover for our Kelmscott Press catalogue, with a new engraving of Kelmscott Manor that was also an update - in terms of its subject - of the work of E.H. New (though more directly that of Charles M. Gere).
