Publisher's Synopsis
Sarah is on a journey to discover the truth behind her brother's disappearance and her mother's absence. Once she had a family, as damaged as it was. Once she had a past and a future that was sad, but predictable, and easily understood. All that had changed, and instead of idly making coffee and reading through her collection of books, Sarah was facing the truth about the universe, and learning all of its secrets. The more she finds out, the less sanity she feels she possesses, and others around her are quick to point this out. She can only hope that all that she is experiencing is not the same mental disease that had once stolen her mother from her. It all began with the purchase of her cafe, Wonderland, but in truth it began long before. When as a little girl she would stare into her mother's empty eyes, and hope for a spark of recognition. In many ways she had never stopped hoping. As Sarah struggles to navigate the lies and deceptions of those she had thought were her friends, she faces the challenge of choosing what to believe. Reality becomes just a word to her as she discovers that there are other planes, not just Earth, and that on one of them her brother is imprisoned and likely being tortured. A revelation from the past heals Sarah in many ways, but also breaks her heart. She yearns only to have her brother back, and safe. With Harry's steady presence always kind if not a little secretive, and the mysterious Arys always showing up when she least expects it, Sarah is torn between who she can trust and who she should fear. In the middle of all of her confusion, a terrible crime takes place right in the middle of Wonderland. Paul, once her landlord, now just another part of her ongoing mystery, has been stabbed. No one seems to know who has done it, but Ms. Queen indicates it was likely Arys, he did carry a blade after all. He is alive, but no one is sure for how long. Sarah is still reeling from this encounter, when she is abducted by Arys, whose intentions are not at all clear. What happens next is the biggest shock of Sarah's life. Everything she had once known to be true has been revealed to be a lie. Now her only intention, if not her obsession, is to save her brother from the torture he is enduring. As she journeys through different planes with the assistance of two very strange guides, she gains a deeper knowledge of just how evil Ms. Queen is. Even as she gains insight into this sadistic woman, Sarah begins to realize that the people around her have been keeping secrets not only about themselves, but also about her. Will Sarah reach Adam in time? Will she give in to Harry's requests for trust, or will she continue to be enchanted by Arys' dark ways?
