In the world's poorest countries, women and girls are among the most vulnerable and marginalized members of society. This goes without saying that women's rights violations are present in every country and at every level of society. Eliminating gender discrimination and empowering women are among the imperatives facing the world today. Although much has changed in the decades of women's rights advocacy, the rights and entitlements claimed for women and girls are commonly ignored or suppressed in many societies worldwide.
