A scarce detective novel from Faber's estimable list - in part curated by T.S. Eliot, who is known to have been a writer of many of their blurbs, including this one, which emphasises primarily his publisher's perception of the author's work. He had sent a copy to his friend, the author Hope Mirrlees, adumbrating the gift in a letter as 'the latest Cyril Hare, which I think is good' and inscribing her copy with reference to the text.
FIRST EDITION, pp. 183, crown 8vo, original salmon-pink cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, lean to spine, some light spotting to edges and endpapers, pencilled ownership inscription to flyleaf, dustjacket lightly browned overall, more so to the backstrip panel, a few tiny spots, chipped and nicked at extremities, good
