Publisher's Synopsis

Winter Dogs: Living with Huskies as Pet Dogs is about the difficulty and wonder of having Huskies as pets. The book discusses sledding, grooming, training, rescue Huskies, their personalities and our role in living with them. You never really "own" a Husky. They are too independent and capable of looking after themselves on some level. Through this detailed and instructive book, we learn that Huskies are not the easiest dog to have, but one of the most brilliant and amazing. Winter Dogs explains this complex relationship between human and Husky in an easy-to-read format, and provides a vast amount of interesting and practical information about the breed. After visiting her friends in Alaska to learn more about the breed and mushing, Louise Basson completed a course in dog behavior at the Ethology Academy. She gives husky-specific behavior training classes to clients and their huskies. Louise has been a moderator on www.alaskan-husky-behavior.com from 2007 to present, guiding husky owners. She is also the author of an article: "7 Training Tips for Husky Owners" in the May issue of Animal Talk Magazine 2010, and is involved in Husky Rescue S. A. with fostering, rehabilitation, and re-homing of the breed. Louise runs a successful dog day care and boarding kennel facility in Cape Town called dog-care-centre, as well as a sledding club called All Breeds Sledding Club. Her latest addition to dog-care-centre is a dog shop. For more about the author and her center, visit www.dog-care-centre.com.
