Publisher's Synopsis

Installed at the time of the church's dedication on September 27, 1891, Old First's stained glass is a remarkable collection of windows in a unified opalescent style. The glass was designed by the most talented artisans at that time - Heinigke and Bowen, William Willet, and the Tiffany Studios were the main contributors. Construction of the windows is intricate, the engineering precise, with some panels being several layers thick. The two transept ensembles are immense taking up a high proportion of the external wall. An enormous rose window at the back of the sanctuary faces Seventh Avenue, with two smaller ones sited above each transept. It was the intention of the architect of Old First, George Morse, to let in as much light as possible to illuminate the subtle Arts and Crafts color palette and stenciling on the interior walls - this decoration a masterpiece of design as well as the windows.

This small book catalogs the main windows with a color photograph, a description of each, and names the old Brooklyn family donors.

Old First Reformed Church is located on Seventh Avenue in Park Slope, at the corner of Carroll Street in Brooklyn, New York.
